What Does It Mean to Be Under Review for My Medical School Application
We are often asked:
- How long does a medical school accept to invite an applicant to submit a secondary application? (Go there)
- When to expect interview invitations for medical schoolhouse (or a response of 'cheers, simply no thanks'?) (Become at that place)
The fact is that there'southward no dominion governing how much time a medical school has to respond to your application.
When do medical schools start interviewing?
This question doesn't have a single answer. Many med schools start sending out interview invitations in September, shortly after the first secondary applications are received. Some schools have a quick turnaround, simply others seem to drag on and on – especially when you're constantly refreshing your email to come across if they've contacted you.
Waiting is even harder when others are receiving invitations and you oasis't heard anything. Although it might be tempting, don't call the school to cheque on your condition – this is sure to backfire on you. Trust that the admissions office is working through the applications every bit fast as they can.
No news from med schools: When should you worry and what can you do about it?
Submitted my primary app, just oasis't received a secondary
If it's been vi-8 weeks since you applied and you haven't been invited to submit a secondary, you might consider sending a Letter of Interest (LOI) to the program. This strategy can exist constructive if you have a stiff connection to the school or its locale. Your reasons for budgeted the programme in this manner might exist a connectedness to an alumnus, a special fit with the program's research efforts, familiarity with the locale, or even friends in the program who have raved nigh what they're learning. Or it might simply be that Ten School of Medicine has always been your dream schoolhouse and you desire to give information technology your best shot. In whatever example, your LOI should demonstrate an understanding of the plan going across the ordinary (i.eastward., what's on their admissions website) and show that yous've done your research.
Before contacting your chosen program(s), you should know whether yous autumn inside their range of accepted students. Are your GPA and MCAT scores above their lowest accepted scores? If not, then you lot've likely been screened out. It's very important that every bit you lot show your fit for the program, your LOI should also highlight your unique qualities in a manner that might not have come beyond as admissions commission members ticked off boxes on their checklists.
Submitted my secondaries, simply waiting for medical school interview invites
If yous've submitted your secondary and are waiting for an interview, the look can seem interminable. Information technology's important during this time to focus on other interests, particularly things that you are passionate about. If y'all finally practice get invited to interview, and are asked about your recent activities, you'll desire to have more to say than "checking my email."
Lookout: If I don't get an interview invitation by Thanksgiving does it mean I was rejected?
The majority of interview invites ("IIs") get out betwixt October and Jan. The earliest IIs seem to go to those who non only submitted secondaries early but who take (ane) high stats and (two) very specific reasons for attending the programme – this is where tailoring your secondary to each school is a huge reward. There are ever applicants who go later IIs, however, and so don't surrender hope.
If you submitted your application early on and haven't heard anything by November, you lot might want to think about sending an LOI. At this point, it's truly a Hail Mary pass and really but works if you tin can evidence yous have a 18-carat connection with or involvement in the schoolhouse. Yous'll need to go beyond what you presented in your secondary; emphasize your new accomplishments as well as your potent fit and interest in that plan.
